Food is your Fuel, not an Entertainment!

Imagine owning a Ferrari. Its high powered engine roaring as you glide through the streets. People turning their heads as you go past them. Some in admiration, some jealous, some in awe and some inspired. Now, what happens if you put in the wrong fuel in the engine? The car stops, the engine chokes and you look stupid, being too irresponsible to handle the car.

Your body is a Ferrari. The food you put in is the fuel. If you put in the right kind of fuel, heads will turn. But if not, you end up all flabby, unhealthy and full of junk food!

We can blame unhealthy eating habits on a lot of factors. If the 21st century has improved the quality of life, it has largely reduced the quality of health. As if ever-increasing pollution and global warming weren't already threatening man-kind towards extinction, we welcome early deaths by the unhealthy lifestyles we seem to have adopted.

There are a lot of factors for this;

Social media: The pressure of peer approval makes a ton of people eat what they shouldn't eat. Going out every evening to drink beers, putting it up on Instagram and Facebook, eating the world's greasiest burger just to look cool on Snapchat, just some of the unhealthy eating habits social media makes us take up.

Stress: There is a rising trend of stress eating disorders that people develop since adolescence. The impact of it can be seen on their adult lives too. As you grow, go out into the world the stress only increases. And you have habitually trained yourself to compensate for any kind of internal disorder with food. That too junk food. The result can lead to heart disorders, obesity, diabetes, and early death as well.

Life of 21st century: We love the indoors. With everything online, there is nothing anyone would rather do than relax on a weekend, with a beer in one hand, chicken wings in another and Netflix running on their screens. Want to eat something else, just use one of the hundred apps there are out there for ordering food. It sounds inviting, but it is highly unhealthy. The 9 to 5 jobs people have these days (which, let's be honest extends up till 8) leaves almost no time for exercising the mind and the body.

You can't exercise every day. You should, but you can't. Let's accept this for now. But you have to eat every day. You can eat right; put the right fuel in your body to keep yourself more energetic and active. If you do, you won't need that beer to relax. Your mind would be at peace and body active.

Let's get some perspective. A Gorilla is usually much muscular than an average human. So it is fair to assume that a Gorilla eats healthier than an average human, right? Gorillas eat vegetables and fruit-leaves and bananas (many green vegetables are comprised of 20-45% protein).

Point made.

There are numerous reports suggesting that we require less protein than we think we do. You don't need to eat meat on a daily basis to keep a high level of protein level in your body. So what exactly do you need to put into your body to have a healthier body and mind? Let's count them down:

Vegetables and unprocessed food. Your mom was forcing them down you in your childhood for a reason. They might not taste great, but the likes of Broccoli, spinach, and nuts can improve your health a lot. Anything green is good enough to be eaten. Make a diet plan, do some research, and keep a balanced intake of vegetables, meat, and rice.

High sugar foods like cola, candy bars, and chocolate are a threat to your health. Our bodies aren't designed to consume junk food. And that is why the intake of high sugar foods, with low nutrients, induces lethargy in the body.

Drink Juices and green-tea. Being of liquid nature, the body absorbs it quickly. The processed juices have preservative content, so drinking that is going back to square one. Wake up early, drink warm water, put in some fruits and veggies in your blender to prepare a juice, drink some nice green tea. This helps in staying active, removes lethargy and is an excellent way to reduce your weights, largely the unwanted fats.

Supplements should be considered. Now, all can't be found in nature, you need to take in some health supplements. It is important to take daily supplements with each meal: multivitamin for overall nutritional health, vitamin B-complex for maintaining your cardiovascular health and fish oil for a healthy heart. This largely depends on your diet.

Have a daily exercise regime. Don't go to the Gym. Go to the park. Go for a morning walk. Take out 30 minutes a day away from all the social media hustle and declutter your mind. You don't need to become a bodybuilder; you just need to be lean and healthy. Even exercising for less than twenty minutes does the trick.

So get off the couch, exercise a little, make your life a little bit cleaner. Eat healthy, live healthy.
